My father got me interested in making and flying balsa models at the age of six, I remember him breaking his used Gillett shaving blades in half for me to cut the wood, sometimes I’d cut the tip of my finger but this didn’t deter me, over the years I went from chuck gliders to rubber powered models and on through jetex to I/C control line and free flight, I bought my first Radio-control single channel set up at the age of 25, I recall it had a single valve receiver and operated the rudder via
a rubber powered escapement(servo today) soon after that I got married and my modelling took backstage as I bought a house and got into home improvements, have children and spending my spare time with the family.
At the age of 50 I started up my modelling again and bought a top of the range Futaba radio with helicopter controls, over the next 23 years I've enjoyed flying most type’s of aircraft and heli's and someday I hope to get my turbine up and away.
I got the name Flat-out Phil because that's how I used to fly all my models but nowadays with my interest in scale I like to fly as the real thing.
